Port of Argentia is a private not-for-profit organization mandated to redevelop and manage the port and property which formerly comprised the US Naval Base at Argentia, for the betterment of the people of the Placentia region of Newfoundland & Labrador.
The Port is led by a skilled and dedicated Board of Directors comprised of nine community volunteers with diverse backgrounds and experience across the private, public and non-profit sectors. The Board is characterized by stability, integrity, common sense, and goodwill.
In carrying out its duties, the Board is responsible for establishing long term economic development, port, and land use policies, and for the oversight of the Port’s operating team which manages the Port’s day to day affairs in line with these policies.
As a commercial seaport, Argentia offers ice free, year round access, a wide turning basin, heavy lift capacity, and up to 11-metre draught alongside 625 metres of dock facilities. The Port also owns and manages significant tracts of industrial property which collectively include some 3,000 acres of developed land, and 360,000 square feet of commercial building space.
Under the direction and guidance of its Board of Directors, the Port has set out a Vision for Argentia to become Newfoundland and Labrador’s premier heavy industrial seaport.
Management and staff would like to acknowledge the dedicated service provided by the Board of Directors of Port of Argentia during this National Volunteer Week.
